A huge congratulations to our member De Montfort University for achieving Good in all areas in their recent full Ofsted inspection.
De Montfort University have been praised for their quality of teaching, meeting the individual needs of students, and their relationship with employers to ensure apprenticeship courses meet industry requirements.
As a result of this ‘apprentices learn specific technical skills and knowledge they need for their chosen careers’ A strength is their ability to link on and off the job training to ensure the learners are able to achieve their goals.
Safeguarding is a strength with high focus on the safety and wellbeing of learners both on campus and in their job roles. Through ‘adequate staff available to manage safeguarding concerns, ‘learners feel protected on campus, and they also have a greater awareness of local safeguarding concerns. Additionally, ‘Learners and apprentices have access to a wide range of resources to support their mental and physical health’ Through on-site and welfare services.
Learners at De Montfort University benefit from safeguarding, prevention and prompt diagnosis of SEND learners. A key FIN finding through our internal database highlights the importance of Intervention and Support, due to it being one of the most common areas for improvement in the HE sector.
‘University leaders are an integral part of local ‘Prevent’ groups. As a result, they respond promptly and appropriately when issues occur in the local area’
Areas for improvement include:
‘Leaders should analyse evidence carefully, such as performance data, and set targets for improvement.’
‘Leaders and managers should ensure that they have thorough oversight of subcontracted provision so that they can ensure all courses are planned well and do not overburden apprentices.’
Our data findings reveal these HE areas for improvement frequently occur within the sector. FIN will be here to continue working with De Montfort, to offer support and advice as they continue their journey on delivering quality and build on their areas of improvement.
