Looking at inclusion in the new inspection framework?

The draft proposals for the new inspection framework have been available for a while now although they appear far from finalised or proposals for grading agreed. We do know the new structure is going to feature inclusion as a key driver.

An outstanding provider report had this to say regarding inclusion. Students are respectful of each other and their teachers. They embrace individual differences, listen and contribute sensitively to challenging discussions in class and are confident that bullying and harassment are never tolerated. They understand how to keep themselves safe, including using safe routes away from the river during floods.

We can see how this may fit the ‘Strong’ category of the proposed new framework. Leaders have established a culture in which all staff are highly vigilant in identifying those learners who may face barriers to their learning and/or well-being

. At the opposite end of the scale we read Leaders’ support for learners who face barriers to their learning and/or well-being is not sufficiently precise, sustained, or effective.

This suggests we need to delve much deeper at initial assessment to ensure staff fully understand barriers to learning. Some FIN resources leaders may wish to explore to help staff better evaluate learning barriers include: (2.103, 2.106, 5.007, 5.201).
