Brunel University London delivers higher and degree level apprenticeships in the areas of nursing, healthcare and digital technology solutions.
They have been FIN members since 2020 and have utilised many of the support services, webinars, and resources in that time. They are one of only four Universities in the country to be graded as Ofsted Outstanding. Naturally they are very proud of this accolade and keen continue growing their high-quality provision in UK skills gap areas.
WHAT IS OUR STORY?
Apprenticeships at Brunel are a relatively new curriculum area established by their Apprenticeship Hub team under the leadership of Raj Kakaiya (Head of Apprenticeships) about 3 years ago. With a passion for establishing and developing strategic purpose-led initiatives, along with a wealth of previous apprenticeship experience, Raj and his small team worked tirelessly to put in place all the operational and quality assurance systems and process to launch degree apprenticeships programmes.
“We adopted a deliberate strategy to build excellent quality over quantity; to drive delivery of first-rate apprenticeship standards and not re-badged degree programmes with knowledge, skills, behaviours and occupational competencies at the heart. The apprenticeship team guided and supported academic leaders to fully understand the different delivery model and paid particular attention to the personal development of their apprentices.”
Along with Raj, the Apprenticeship Hub team includes Madeleine Swart (Apprenticeships Manager), Bethan Quelch (Apprenticeship Administrator) and Paul Harvey-Browne (Business Development Manager). They established robust management and governance, quality assurance policies and procedures, employer-partner relations, audit, compliance and best practice development.
